 Hi, my name is ­­­­Rachel.
 What is your role at Parents’ Place?
 I am the Accounting Assistant at Parents’ Place. I ensure our employees are paid for their hard work and reimbursed for any supplies and refreshments they buy for our support groups. I also pay all bills to keep our facility running.
In addition to my daily responsibilities, I provide support in any area that may be needed – from filling in for our Play to Learn support group to helping at all events that we put on throughout the year. 
What led you to your current role?
I have been with Parents’ Place since it opened its doors. I started as a volunteer for the very first Information Fair and Festival and have been working in the prize area there every year since.
Before transitioning into my permanent role, I worked with the accounting office that originally did the books for Parents’ Place. Whenever Parents’ Place was in between employees for the accounting position, I would fill in and was eventually hired permanently. This allowed us to bring all the work in-house.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
It is so fulfilling to know that I am a small part of the exceptional work done at Parents’ Place. I have a nephew with a disability and Parents’ Place has been a big part of his, and so many other individuals, lives. Also, the people here are such a joy to work alongside every day.

Hola, mi nombre es Rachel.
¿Cuál es su rol en Parents’ Place?
Soy la Asistente de Contabilidad en Parents’ Place. Me aseguro de que nuestros empleados reciban el pago por su trabajo y el reembolso por cualquier suministro y refrigerios que compren para nuestros grupos de apoyo. También pago todas las facturas para que nuestras instalaciones sigan funcionando.
Además de mis responsabilidades diarias, brindo apoyo en cualquier área que sea necesaria, desde cubrir el grupo de apoyo Play to Learn hasta ayudar en todos los eventos que organizamos a lo largo del año.
¿Qué la llevó a su rol actual?
He estado en Parents’ Place desde que abrió sus puertas. Comencé como voluntaria en la primera Feria de Información y Festival y desde entonces he trabajado cada año en el área de premios.
Antes de pasar a mi puesto permanente, trabajé con la oficina de contabilidad que originalmente llevaba los libros de Parents’ Place. Siempre que Parents’ Place se quedaba sin personal para el puesto de      contabilidad, yo cubría ese espacio y finalmente fui contratada de manera permanente. Esto nos permitió traer todo el trabajo internamente.
¿Qué es lo que más disfruta de su rol?
Es muy gratificante saber que soy una pequeña parte del trabajo excepcional que se realiza en Parents’ Place. Tengo un sobrino con una discapacidad y Parents’ Place ha sido una parte importante de su vida, y de la vida de muchas otras personas. Además, las personas aquí son una verdadera alegría para trabajar junto a ellas(o) todos los días.

Hi, my name is Veronica Ochoa.

​I am the Bilingual Receptionist and Data Specialist here at Parents’ Place. I learned about the center through a friend whose child receives services here. She invited me to volunteer at the annual Christmas party, and that experience opened my eyes to the wonderful work this organization does. I was deeply impressed by the many services offered to families — providing not only education and resources but also hope and support to those raising children and young adults with special needs.
Having a nephew with special needs, I understand the value of this community support. It’s an honor to be part of a team that truly makes a difference.
As we enter the busy summer season, I’m looking forward to welcoming families, assisting with workshop registrations, and continuing to help connect our community to the support it needs.

Hola, mi nombre es Veronica Ochoa.
Soy la Recepcionista Bilingüe y Especialista en Datos aquí en Parents’ Place. Conocí el centro a través de una amiga cuyo hijo recibe servicios aquí. Ella me invitó a ser voluntaria en la fiesta anual de Navidad y esa experiencia me abrió los ojos al maravilloso trabajo que realiza esta organización. Me impresionaron profundamente los muchos servicios que se ofrecen a las familias — brindando no solo educación y recursos, sino también esperanza y apoyo a quienes crían a niños y jóvenes adultos con necesidades especiales.
Tener un sobrino con necesidades especiales me ha permitido entender personalmente el valor de este tipo de apoyo comunitario. Es un honor ser parte de un equipo que realmente marca la diferencia.
Al comenzar la ajetreada temporada de verano, espero dar la bienvenida a las familias, ayudar con las inscripciones a los talleres y seguir conectando a nuestra comunidad con los apoyos que necesita.

Hi! My name is Tony Nguyen. I am a Bilingual Family Resource Specialist with over seven years of experience working with families and children with developmental disabilities. Most of my experience is providing ABA services to young teens and autistic children.
What’s your role at Parents’ Place?
I am a bilingual family support specialist at Parents’ Place and speak English and Vietnamese. I provide families with information about different community resources. I explain the variety of resources available to families, help them navigate the systems, and sometimes assist them in filling out the application for benefits when needed. My role also provides Vietnamese translation/interpretation to families who do not speak good English.
 What led you to your current role?
I met Mr. Amos Byun a Community Outreach Specialist at the San Gabriel Pomona Regional Center at the Local Library in El Monte, where I was providing ABA services to a client on that day. Mr. Amos told me that Parents’ Place is looking for a Vietnamese bi-lingual family support specialist, if I am interested in the position, apply for it. I applied for the position. That is how I got started working with Parents’ Place. This role gives me great opportunities to help families with children with special needs, especially in the Vietnamese community.      
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy working with people. Parents’ Place gives me the opportunity to engage and help people. I am able to empower families with information, knowledge, and provide resources so families can be better advocates for their loved ones. When seeing families successfully get approval for the benefits, it brings me great joy.
What advice would you give to a person who is interested in joining the Parents’ Place FRC team?
My advice to a potential candidate is to be yourself. Be patient, respectful, and honest with the families on what you can or can’t help. Willing to go the extra mile in supporting and helping families and the organization when needed. The most important of all is to be a good team player and teamwork in supporting and helping each other within the organization.

Tôi tên Tony Nguyễn, là nhân viên song ngữ. Tôi hỗ trợ & cung cấp tài nguyên/thông tin cho gia đình.  Tôi là Chuyên gia có hơn bảy năm kinh nghiệm làm việc với gia đình và trẻ em khuyết tật, chậm phát triển. Phần lớn kinh nghiệm của tôi là cung cấp dịch vụ ABA(hành vi) cho thanh thiếu niên và trẻ tự kỷ.
 
Vai trò của tôi tại Parent’s Place là gì?
Tôi là chuyên gia hỗ trợ/ giúp đở gia đình tại Parent’s Place và tôi nói được tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt. Tôi cung cấp cho các gia đình thông tin về các nguồn lực cộng đồng khác nhau. Tôi giải thích sự đa dạng của các nguồn lực sẵn có cho các gia đình, giúp đở & hướng dẩn họ điều hướng hệ thống cung cấp những quyền lợi xã hội, và đôi khi hỗ trợ gia đình điền đơn đăng ký nhận trợ cấp khi cần thiết. Vai trò của tôi cũng là hổ trợ, cung cấp bản dịch/thông dịch tiếng Việt cho những gia đình gặp khó khăn về ngôn ngữ tiếng Anh.
 
Điều gì đã dẫn tôi đến vai trò hiện tại?
Tôi đã gặp ông Amos Byun, Chuyên gia tiếp cận cộng đồng cho Regional Center San Gabriel Pomona tại Thư Viện địa phương ở thành phố El Monte, nơi tôi đang cung cấp dịch vụ ABA cho khách hàng vào ngày hôm đó. Ông Amos cho tôi biết rằng Parent’s Place đang tìm kiếm một chuyên gia hỗ trợ gia đình song ngữ người Việt, nếu tôi quan tâm đến vị trí này thì hãy ứng tuyển. Tôi đã ứng tuyển vào vị trí này. Đó là cách tôi bắt đầu làm việc với Parent’s Place. Vai trò này mang lại cho tôi cơ hội tuyệt vời để giúp đỡ các gia đình có trẻ em có nhu cầu đặc biệt, đặc biệt là trong cộng đồng người Việt. 
    
Điều yêu thích nhất của tôi ở vai trò nầy là gì?
Tôi thích làm việc với mọi người. Parent’s Place cho tôi cơ hội gắn kết và giúp đỡ các gia đình. Tôi có thể trao quyền cho các gia đình thông tin, kiến ​​thức và cung cấp các nguồn lực xã hôi để các gia đình có thể trở thành người ủng hộ tốt hơn cho những người thân yêu của họ. Khi thấy các gia đình được phê duyệt thành công các quyền lợi xã hội, đó là một sự vui mừng cho tôi.
 
Bạn sẽ đưa ra lời khuyên gì cho những người quan tâm và muốn tham gia để trở thành nhân viên hỗ trợ gia đình của Parents’ Place?
Lời khuyên của tôi dành cho ứng viên tiềm năng là hãy là chính mình. Hãy kiên nhẫn, tôn trọng và trung thực với các gia đình về những gì bạn có thể giúp được hoặc không thể giúp đỡ. Sẵn sàng nỗ lực hết mình trong việc hỗ trợ và giúp đỡ các gia đình và trong tổ chức.
Và quan trọng nhất là trở thành một người có tinh thần đồng đội tốt, cộng tác tốt, hòa thuận và làm việc theo nhóm trong việc hỗ trợ và giúp đỡ lẫn nhau trong cơ quan.

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Tony Nguyen. Soy un especialista bilingüe en recursos familiares con más de siete años de experiencia trabajando con familias y niños con discapacidades del desarrollo. La mayor parte de mi experiencia consiste en brindar servicios de ABA a adolescentes y niños autistas.

¿Cuál es su función en Parents' Place? Soy un especialista bilingüe en apoyo familiar en Parents’ Place y hablo Inglés y Vietnamita. Proporciono a las familias información sobre diferentes recursos comunitarios. Explico la variedad de recursos disponibles para las familias, las ayudo a navegar por los sistemas y, a veces, las ayudo a completar la solicitud de beneficios cuando es necesario. Mi función también proporciona traducción/interpretación del vietnamita a familias que no hablan Inglés.

¿Qué te llevó a tu puesto actual? Conocí al Sr. Amos Byun, un especialista en alcance comunitario en el Centro Regional San Gabriel Pomona en la Biblioteca Local en El Monte, donde estaba brindando servicios de ABA a un cliente ese día. El Sr. Amos me dijo que Parents' Place está buscando un especialista en apoyo familiar bilingüe Vietnamita. Si estoy interesado en el puesto, solicítelo. Solicité el puesto. Así fue como comencé a trabajar con Parents' Place. Este puesto me brinda grandes oportunidades para ayudar a familias con niños con necesidades especiales, especialmente en la comunidad Vietnamita.

¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de tu papel?  Disfruto trabajando con la gente. Parents' Place me brinda la oportunidad de involucrarme y ayudar a las personas. Puedo empoderar a las familias con información, conocimiento y brindarles recursos para que puedan ser mejores defensores de sus seres queridos. Me llena de alegría ver a las familias obtener con éxito la aprobación de los beneficios.

 ¿Qué consejo le daría a una persona interesada en unirse al equipo de Parents’ Place FRC?  Mi consejo para un candidato potencial es que sea usted mismo. Sea paciente, respetuoso y honesto con las familias sobre lo que puede o no puede ayudar. Dispuesto a hacer un esfuerzo adicional para apoyar y ayudar a las familias y a la organización cuando sea necesario. Y lo más importante de todo es ser un buen jugador de equipo y trabajar en equipo para apoyarse y ayudarse mutuamente dentro de la organización.

Hi, I am Sandra Jimenez, as a fairly new employee with Parents’ Place, I have had the privilege to communicate with parents and help provide resource for their children. I have 15 years of experience working in the Special Education Community. I have 3 Children and 3 Grandchildren. They motivate me to give my best in all that I do. As I know the significance it is of being a resource to our children.
What is your role at Parents’ Place?
My role at Parents’ Place is an Assistant Technology Support Specialist. I help with providing resources that can help their children learn in the best way that suits them. I help them get the educational applications for their device and provide tech support to navigate their device. 
What led you to your current position?
When I was first introduced to the Special Education Community in 2006 I had the desire to learn more about the Community and how I can be an asset to families. I continued by attending workshops and  instantly loved being able to nurture and help these families with the knowledge that I had learned. I then built relationships with the children and parents that would visit our facility.
What do you enjoy the most about your work?
I find it rewarding to help families achieve their full potential and gain independence by providing the best resources.
What advice would you give to someone who is interested in joining the Parents’ Place FRC team?
No matter your position in the Special Education Community give yourself the opportunity to impact the lives of children.

Soy Sandra Jiménez, como empleada relativamente nueva de Parents' Place, he tenido el privilegio de comunicarme con los padres y ayudar a proporcionar recursos para sus hijos. Tengo 3 hijos y 3 nietos que me motivan a dar lo mejor de mí en todo lo que hago porque sé la importancia que tiene ser un recurso para nuestros hijos.
¿Cuál es su papel en Parents' Place?
Mi función en Parents' Place es la de asistente especialista en apoyo a lo tecnológico. Ayudo proporcionando recursos que puedan ayudar a sus hijos a aprender de la mejor manera que les convenga. Les ayudo a obtener las aplicaciones educativas para su dispositivo y les brindo apoyo técnico para navegar en su dispositivo.
¿Qué te llevó a tu puesto actual?
Cuando conocí por primera vez la Comunidad de Educación Especial en 2006, tenía el deseo de aprender más sobre la Comunidad y cómo puedo ser de gran valor para las familias. Continué asistiendo a talleres y al instante me encantó poder nutrir y ayudar a familias con el conocimiento que había aprendido. Luego construí relaciones con los niños y los padres que visitaban nuestras instalaciones.
¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de tu trabajo?
Encuentro gratificante ayudar a las familias a alcanzar su máximo potencial y ganar independencia brindándoles los mejores recursos.
¿Qué consejo le daría a alguien que esté interesado en unirse al equipo de Parents’ Place FRC?
No importa tu posición en la comunidad de educación especial, date la oportunidad de impactar las vidas de los niños.

I am Inés Villegas, involved in the special education community for more than 40 years and proud mother of a young woman with epilepsy, I was a special education teacher for 27 years in Peru.

What is your role at Parents’ Place?
My role at Parents' Place is to strengthen families with timely and appropriate information and resources according to the individual needs of our families. I also serve as a supervisor of children in different support groups such as: "Carita Feliz", "Nuevo Dia”, "Starlight" and “Strength in Unity"

What led you to your current position?
My passion is to help people who have special needs/disabilities. In 2013, I attended the Parent' Place Information Fair and met Yasmin Cardona, who invited me to volunteer at the center, and during my visit "I fell into it like a fish in water" and I said "I am in the right place to continue with my passion supporting people with disabilities"

What do you enjoy most about your work?
The satisfaction of duty is fulfilled when a family has successfully fulfilled its objective. Supporting families in their journey one step at a time.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in joining the Parents’ Place FRC team?
​Have experience in knowing and having worked with a person with a disability. Willingness to make a difference in the lives of others and empathy to provide together reasonable solutions according to the established situation.

¿Qué te llevó a tu puesto actual?
Mi pasión es ayudar a las personas que presentan una necesidad especial y/o discapacidad. Fue en el año 2013 que asistí a la feria Informativa de Parent' Place y conocí a Yasmin Cardona, quien me invito a participar como voluntaria en el centro y durante mi visita me sentí como "un pez en el agua" y dije "Estoy en el lugar adecuado para seguir con mi pasión apoyando a las personas con necesidades especiales" 

¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de tu trabajo?
La satisfacción del deber cumplido cuando una familia ha logrado su objetivo con éxito y apoyando a las familias un paso a la vez.

¿Qué consejo le darías a una persona que está interesada en unirse al equipo de FRC de Parents’ Place? 
Tener experiencia en conocer y haber laborado con una persona con discapacidad, Voluntad en marcar la diferencia en la vida de otras personas y empatía para juntos buscar soluciones razonables de acuerdo con la situación establecida.

Hi, My name is Julieanna Trejo I am a Family Resource Specialist. I am proud to say that I have over 28 years serving Adults and Children with Special Needs.

What is your role at Parent’s Place?  My role at Parents Place is a Family Resource Specialist and a Community Navigator.

What led you to your current role?  I attended the Information Fair &    Festival two years in a row. This led me to bring my son who was diagnosed with Intellectual Disability and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ID/ ADHD) to participate with Teen Titans. My son has been attending for two years. When I saw that the Parents’ Place employees were so passionate about their jobs, and took such good care of the Kids, this made my son and I feel so welcome.  I told my husband “One day I want to be a part of something like this and make a difference in kids’ lives”.

What do you most enjoy about your role?  I enjoy welcoming the families into our center and       listening to their stories. I like figuring out a plan of what I can do to help them. Knowing that families come in seeking our help and letting them know that they are not alone is important. I enjoy providing resources, talking with them and helping them navigate technology. This makes me feel so wonderful and blessed to be a part of the Parents Place Team.

What advice would you give to a person who is interested in joining the Parent’s Place FRC team?  So many families feel lost, they don’t know where to go or who to talk to. Remember that you will need to be flexible, you will need patience, you will be among a very caring staff, and you will meet the most amazing people along the way.

¿Qué te llevó a tu puesto actual? 
Asistí a la Feria y Festival de Información dos años seguidos. Esto me llevó a traer a mi hijo, a quien le diagnosticaron ​discapacidad intelectual y trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad (ID/ADHD), a participar con Teen Titans. Mi hijo asiste desde hace dos años. Cuando vi que los empleados de Parents’ Place tenían tanta pasión por su trabajo y cuidaban tan bien a los niños, mi hijo y yo nos sentimos muy bienvenidos. Le dije a mi esposo: 
“Algún día quiero ser parte de algo como esto y marcar una diferencia en la vida de los niños”.

¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de tu trabajo?
Disfruto recibir a las familias en nuestro centro y escuchar sus historias. Me gusta idear un plan de lo que puedo hacer​ ​para ayudarlos. Es importante saber que las familias acuden en busca de nuestra ayuda y hacerles saber que no  están solos. Disfruto brindándoles recursos, hablando con ellos y ayudándolos a navegar por la tecnología. Esto me hace sentir maravillosa y bendecida de ser parte del equipo de Parents’ Place. 

¿Qué consejo le darías a una persona que está interesada en unirse al equipo de FRC de Parent's Place? 
Muchas familias se sienten perdidas y no saben adónde ir ni con quién hablar. Recuerda que necesitarás ser flexible, necesitarás paciencia, estarás entre un personal muy atento y conocerás a las personas más increíbles en el camino.​

Hello, my name is Lucia Perez, I am a Bilingual Family Resource Specialist. Although I am new to Parent’s Place, I have over 17 years of experience in the social services field. My extensive experience in working with individuals with special needs has allowed me to assist families within the communities.
 
· What’s your role at Parents’ Place?
My role at Parents’ Place FRC is to support bilingual families obtain the resources from San Gabriel Pomona Regional Center and community. I empower families with providing information and resources to successfully direct them through the system. I currently facilitate the Young Adult Social Group from ages 18 through 26 to come together to socialize and make new friends.
 
· What led you to your current role?
I worked at a non-profit organization for over 17 years, climbing the ladder from a Personal attendant to a Program Coordinator. I have worked with adults with disabilities and their families with providing support with different roles. I came to Parents’ Place in February 2023 with experience helping families with disabilities. I have worked with   Parents’ Place when working with the non-profit organization in the past. I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to continue providing support to families with children with disabilities.
 
· What do you most enjoy about your role?
In my role as a Family Resource Specialist, I enjoy meeting new parents with their children/young adults and providing resources and knowledge to successfully advocate through their needs. I enjoy seeing families      accomplish their goals through their child’s stages of life. I also enjoy working with the Young Adult Social Group and learning about the individuals that attend the support group and their personalities.
 
· What advice would you give to a person who is interested in joining the Parents’ Place FRC team?
My advice to a person who is interested in joining the Parents’ Place FRC team is to bring a positive attitude to the workplace in order to provide a warm environment for the families that need resources. Working for Parents’ Place, you will gain leadership skills and communication skills to work toward the same goal of providing hope and support for families with children with special needs through education and community resources.

​Hola, mi nombre es Lucía Pérez, soy Especialista Bilingüe en Recursos Familiares. Aunque soy nueva en Parent's Place, tengo más de 17 años de experiencia en el campo de los servicios sociales. Mi amplia experiencia en el trabajo con personas con necesidades especiales me ha permitido ayudar a las familias dentro de las comunidades.

¿Cuál es tu papel en Parent's Place?  Mi papel en Parents' Place FRC es apoyar a las familias bilingües para que obtengan los recursos del Centro Regional de San Gabriel Pomona. Empodero a las familias con información y recursos para dirigirlas con éxito a través del sistema. Actualmente facilito el Grupo Social de Adultos Jóvenes de 18 a 26 años para que se reúnan para socializar y hacer nuevos amigos.
 
¿Qué te llevó a tu puesto actual? Trabajé en una organización sin fines de lucro durante más de 17 años, ascendiendo de asistente personal a coordinadora de programas. He trabajado con adultos con discapacidades y sus familias brindándoles apoyo con diferentes servicios sociales. Llegué a Parents' Place en febrero de 2023 con experiencia previa. Ya había trabajado con Parents' Place cuando trabajé con la organización sin fines de lucro en el pasado. Soy muy afortunada de tener la oportunidad de continuar brindando apoyo a familias con niños con necesidades especial discapacidades.
 
¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de tu trabajo? En mi papel como Especialista en Recursos Familiares, disfruto conocer a los nuevos padres con sus hijos/adultos jóvenes y brindarles recursos y conocimientos para abogar con éxito a través de sus necesidades. Disfruto ver a las familias lograr sus metas a través de las etapas de la vida de sus hijos. También disfruto trabajar con el Grupo Social de Jóvenes Adultos y aprender sobre las personas que asisten y sus personalidades.
 
¿Qué consejo le darías a una persona que está interesada en unirse al equipo de FRC de Parent's Place? Mi consejo para una persona que esté interesada en unirse al equipo de FRC de Parents' Place es que traiga una actitud positiva al lugar de trabajo para proporcionar un ambiente cálido para las familias que necesitan recursos. Trabajando para Parents' Place, adquirirá habilidades de liderazgo y habilidades de comunicación para trabajar hacia el mismo objetivo de brindar esperanza y apoyo a las familias con niños con necesidades especiales a través de la educación y los recursos comunitarios.

Hello everyone!  My name is Connie Kwok.  I am a Family Resource Specialist, Community Navigator, and the Facilitator of Starlight Chinese Parent Support Group at Parents’ Place.  I am trilingual in English, Mandarin & Cantonese.  I am also a parent, and my son has Autism. I have been in the Social Services field for 10 years.
 
What’s your role at Parents’ Place?
My role is to provide support and navigate families to receive appropriate services for their family members who have special needs.  Part of my job is facilitating the Starlight Chinese Parent Support Group.
What do you most enjoy about your role?
As a Family Resource Specialist, I enjoy assisting families to receive information and services for their needs.  I am a parent of special needs; and I have come to understand the necessary support and resources needed by parents.
What advice would you give to a person who is interested in joining the Parents’ Place FRC team?
My advice to a potential candidate is to have a multicultural and positive attitude and be willing to make extra effort to assist the families. Patience and flexibility are also important to better serve our families.

Hola mi nombre es Connie Kwok. Soy una especialista de recursos familiares, y también soy la facilitadora del grupo de apoyo “Starlight” para familias que hablan chino aquí en Parents’ Place. Hablo tres idiomas, Ingles, Mandarín y Cantones. También soy madre de un joven que tiene autismo. He estado en el campo de los servicios sociales por 10 años. 

¿Cuál es tu papel en Parents' Place?   
Mi rol aquí es proporcionar a las familias apoyo y navegación para ue puedan recibir los servicios apropiados para sus seres queridos con necesidades especiales. Parte de mi trabajo es facilitar el grupo de apoyo para familias que hablan Mandarin y Cantones. 
 
¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de tu papel?                                                                                               
​Como especialista de recursos familiares, disfruto ayudar a las familias para que reciban información y recursos a sus necesidades. Soy madre de un niño con necesidades especiales y he aprendido por experiencia los recursos que los padres necesitan. 
 
¿Qué consejo le daría a un padre que esté interesado en aprender más sobre Parents' Plce?              
Mi consejo para alguien que quisiera ser parte del equipo es tener una actitud positiva, multicultural, y estar disponible para asistir a las familias. Paciencia y flexibilidad es algo importante para servir a las familias e individuos de una mejor manera.

Hi! My name is Maria D. Luna. I am the Administrative Assistant, Community Navigator, and Teen Titans Support Group facilitator at Parents’ Place. I am bilingual in English and Spanish. I am a parent of a child with ADHD & Emotional Disorders. I have 12 years of experience in the Social Services field.

What’s your role at Parents’ Place?
My role at Parents’ Place FRC is overseeing the administrative department and supporting our team. I work in conjunction with the Parents’ Place Executive Director.  I also provide support to families and professionals as needed. I currently facilitate the Teen Titans Support Group.
 
What do you most enjoy about your role?
As an Administrative Assistant, I enjoy that every day is a learning opportunity. I enjoy overseeing our team and assisting with building a positive environment.
 
What advice would you give to a person who is interested in joining the Parents’ Place FRC team?
I would advise a potential candidate to have a positive attitude and a willingness to go the extra mile for our families. To be flexible and creative, understand the environment here at Parents’ Place is ever evolving to better serve our families and community.

Lawson.

What’s your role at Parents’ Place?  My name is Tavia Lorese Lawson, and I am a Family Support Specialist and a proud Mom of an amazing young man who just happens to have Autism. I also serve as the California Autism Professional Training and Information Network CADRE Family Resource Center Mentor for the Southern California Region on behalf of Parents’ Place. CAPTAIN helps those with Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities. Lastly, I help to co-facilitate the REACH English Support group along with Elizabeth Cuevas. The REACH Support group is a great group of parents whom I get the privilege of learning from every time we meet on Zoom.

What led you to your current role? A behavioralist and a school administrator told me about Parents’ Place. At Parents’ Place, I was fortunate to meet a lady named Wendy, who took out the time to listen intently to my family's struggles. Wendy explained she was a parent too. I began to take workshops, attend trainings, and check out books that were recommended. The workshops, trainings, and EZ Access binder provided to me, empowered me to learn how to advocate for my son. Eventually attended the Information Fair and Festival where I was introduced to what I call an “encyclopedia” of resources that were available throughout the community. The agencies that I was able to connect with, in addition to the support received by Wendy from Parents’ Place, is what led me to seek an internship with the organization.   

What do you most enjoy about your role? Collaborating locally and statewide with the Local Educational Agencies to bring vital information needed to the families we serve. I especially enjoy working behind the scenes and encouraging families. When families understand that they are not alone on this journey, and that I can help assist them in some small way, that brings me joy.   

What advice would you give to a parent who is interested in learning more about Parents’ Place?  My advice to parents is, no matter your child's age, it is never too late to learn about the services available to you.  We are willing to help.  To contact our office feel free to email empower@parentsplacefrc.com or you can contact me directly to Tavia.l@parentsplacefrc.com. ¿Cuál es tu papel en Parents' Place?  Mi nombre es Tavia Lorese Lawson y soy especialista en apoyo familiar y una orgullosa madre de un joven increíble que tiene autismo. También sirvo como Mentor del Centro de Recursos Familiares CADRE de la Red de Información y Capacitación Profesional de Autismo para la  Región del Sur de California en nombre de Parents' Place. CAPTAIN ayuda a las personas con autismo y otras discapacidades del desarrollo. Por último, ayudo a co-facilitar el grupo de apoyo de inglés REACH junto con Elizabeth Cuevas. El grupo de apoyo REACH es un grupo de padres de los que tengo el privilegio de aprender cada vez que nos reunimos en Zoom.
 
¿Qué te llevó a tu puesto actual?  Un especialista de comportamiento y  administrador de escuela me hablaron de Parents' Place. En Parents' Place, tuve la suerte de conocer a una señorita llamada Wendy, que se tomó el tiempo para escuchar atentamente las retos de mi familia. Wendy explicó que ella también era madre.  Comencé a tomar talleres, asistir a entrenamientos y leer libros que me prestaron de su libreria. Los talleres, capacitaciones y la carpeta EZ Access que me proporcionaron, me permitieron aprender a abogar por mi hijo. Finalmente asistí a la Feria y Festival de Información, donde me presentaron lo que llamo una "enciclopedia" de recursos que estaban disponibles en toda la comunidad. Las agencias con las que pude conectarme, además del apoyo recibido por Wendy de Parents' Place, es lo que me llevó a buscar trabajo voluntario con la organización.   
 
¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de tu papel? Colaborar a nivel local y estatal con las agencias educativas locales para brindar información vital necesaria a las familias a las que servimos. Me gusta especialmente trabajar detrás de escena y alentar a las familias. Cuando las familias entienden que no están solas en este viaje, y que puedo ayudarlas de alguna manera pequeña, eso me trae alegría.   
 
¿Qué consejo le daría a un padre que esté interesado en aprender más sobre Parents' Place?  Mi consejo para los padres es que, sin importar la edad de su hijo, nunca es demasiado tarde para conocer los servicios disponibles para usted.  Estamos dispuestos a ayudar.  Para ponerse en contacto con nuestra oficina, no dude en enviar un correo electrónico a empower@parentsplacefrc.com.
